Learn More About HGT's Internet Networks

  • What is a Satellite Internet

Satellite Internet access is Internet access provided through communications satellites. HGT's privete modern consumer grade satellite Internet service is typically provided to individual users through geostationary satellites that can offer high data speeds, with newer satellites offering downstream data speeds up to 506 Mbit/s.
One of the biggest advantages of satellite internet is that no matter where you are in Africa, running a mine in the middle of the bush, hundreds of kilometres from anywhere, you can still get a fast realiable internet connection.
So long as you have a power source you can get an internet connection. Power can be provided by solar panels if your location is so remote, that there are no power lines.
HGT can offer you a connection to our private connection as we have space available on the satellites positioned positioned all over Africa.

  • What is Fibre

Optical fiber is a type of transparent fiber that is capable of transporting light at high speed. As a rule of thumb, light travels at about 200,000 kilometers per second through an optical fiber. Optical fibers have a pure glass or plastic core wrapped in a cladding material. The following are common applications for optical fiber.

    Communication

Transmitting data as light pulses over optical fiber. This allows for high bandwidth, long distance transmissions that are immune to electromagnetic interference. Fiber is generally superior to electrical cabling for communications. As such, telecom networks began the process of upgrading networks with optical fiber as early as the 1970s. Internet infrastructure and telecom networks are now generally based on fiber optics with the exception being the last mile.
